Worth the price

I needed a simple website for my portfolio and was looking for something affordable. I looked at a few options, but Webstarts had a decent annual plan discount that caught my eye. The free website hosting included was a big factor too, as I didn't want to pay extra for that. Setting up the custom domain was straightforward. I also liked that they offered an SSL certificate as part of the package, which some other builders charge extra for. The website builder itself was pretty intuitive. I felt like I got good value for what I paid. It was definitely worth the purchase for my needs.

Consistent value

I've been using Webstarts for about three years now for my small business site. I started with their basic premium plan and upgraded to one with the Online Store Builder last year. This latest renewal for my annual plan went smoothly, just like the others. Their interface for managing the site is consistent, and I appreciate that. I haven't had any major surprises or slowdowns compared to my previous experiences, which is why I keep coming back. It's reliable enough for what I need without breaking the bank. The site always stays up and I can make changes without much hassle.

Good for simple site

I used Webstarts for a basic site. The website builder was easy enough. Got my pages up fast. Hosting works fine. No issues.

Easy to get started

I finally decided to make a website for my little side hustle, and Webstarts made it pretty chill. I just jumped in with the free plan to see how it went. The drag-and-drop thing for the website builder was super intuitive, didn't need to watch a bunch of tutorials or anything. I even played around with the Logo Maker. It felt less intimidating than I thought it would be, which is a big plus for someone like me who's not super techy. Happy with how it turned out for a first try.

Thinking about upgrading from the free WebStarts plan to a paid one, mainly for the custom domain. Anyone done this recently? Are there any discounts for upgrading?

R RahulK 1 month ago ✓ Best Answer
Yeah, I just upgraded about two months ago. They usually have a first-year discount or a bundle deal if you go for an annual plan. I snagged a pretty good one that included a free domain for the first year. Check their promotions page, sometimes it's not super obvious.

Following this, my free site looks good but really need that custom domain.

Oh, a free domain for the first year sounds good. Was it automatically applied or did you need a promo code?

A AmitM 1 month ago
Mine was automatic with the annual signup for the Business plan. They seem to push those.

I upgraded last year, and I think I got a bit of a discount because I was already a free user. Not a huge one, but every bit helps. Also, connecting my own domain was surprisingly easy, their guide was clear.

Good to know connecting the domain isn't a nightmare. Thanks!

They don't really do student discounts, do they? I've looked and never found anything specific for that.

Nope, no student discounts, unfortunately.

Not that I've ever seen. Mostly annual plan promos.

My WebStarts site's loading speed feels a bit slow lately, especially on mobile. Anyone else experiencing this? I'm on the Pro Plus plan.

P PoojaR 3 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
I switched from Wix to WebStarts because Wix felt sluggish, and WebStarts was definitely faster initially. Haven't noticed any recent slowdowns though. How many pages do you have?

Interesting. I've been considering moving off Wix too.

Around 10 pages. Not a massive site. I wonder if it's region-specific.

Mine's been fine. Maybe try clearing your browser cache and checking from a different device? Could be local on your end.

Could be. Mine was fine yesterday.

Good point, I'll try that. Thanks!

I noticed a slight dip a couple of weeks ago, but it seemed to clear up for me. Are you using a lot of high-res images or videos? Sometimes that's the culprit, even with good hosting.

Same here, had to compress all my product images. Made a huge difference.

I do have a few videos. I tried optimizing them but maybe not enough. Thanks for the tip.

Does anyone know if the 'free website' plan is actually free forever, or is it like a trial that eventually forces you to upgrade? Also, can you actually sell stuff on it?

B Brett T. 2 months ago
The free plan is legit free forever, but it has their branding on it. You can't sell products directly on the free plan though, gotta upgrade for that. Found that out the hard way lol.

N Nina T. 2 months ago
Yeah, it's free but pretty basic. Good for just a personal site or a landing page. For any e-commerce or to remove the branding, you'll need a paid plan.

I saw something about discounts for annual plans. Is it usually worth it to pay yearly upfront, or are the monthly plans not that much more expensive?

T Troy M. 2 months ago
Definitely worth it to go annual if you plan on sticking around! I saved like 20% on my business plan compared to paying monthly. They usually have some good deals on yearly subs.

K Kate Brooks 2 months ago
Yeah, they almost always have a decent discount for annual billing. Plus, sometimes they bundle in a free domain or something if you commit for the year.

Hey, I'm trying to decide between this and Wix for my small business. Anyone use both and have a preference for building an online store?

J Julia Lindqvist 1 month ago
I used WebStarts for a while for a side hustle, and it was pretty straightforward to get a basic store up. The drag-and-drop was decent. Never tried Wix for a store, just their regular builder.

Wix is more popular but WebStarts is totally legit too. For e-commerce, it kinda depends on how many products you have and if you need super advanced features. WebStarts is good for smaller shops, I think.

How easy is it to connect your own domain name if I already bought one somewhere else? Is it a complicated process or pretty straightforward?

R Renee B. 2 months ago
Super easy! I had my domain bought on Namecheap and connected it to my WebStarts site in about 10 minutes. They have clear instructions in their help section.

N Neil 2 months ago
It's just changing your DNS settings, like with any host. If you've done it before, it's a breeze. If not, their guides are pretty good.

Thinking of signing up for a premium plan. Where do you even put a coupon code? I've got one but can't seem to find the box at checkout.

S Sophie 2 months ago
It should be on the checkout page when you're upgrading your plan. Look for a small link or a text box that says 'Promo Code' or 'Coupon Code'. It's not always super obvious.

K Kevin E. 2 months ago
I remember seeing it right before you confirm payment. Just poke around on that last page, it'll be there somewhere, afaik.
